I have had a lot of you ask if I could blog more sports stuff, so I thought I would make an effort and do just that this football season. Yesterday was the opening day for the Oklahoma Sooners football team and only the second game I have covered in Norman since I graduated.(As an alum, I was thrilled when USA Today told me I would be covering a lot of OU games this year!) It was definitely fun to get back to my old stomping grounds and take in all of the old tradition as well as witness some of the new ones!
Tailgating is a HUGE thing in college football and Oklahoma does it pretty big! Check out the cool custom Sooner bike too!
A NEW tradition is the players “Walk of Champions.” The players get off the buses and walk to the stadium in the middle of hundreds of adoring fans.
How can you beat the Sooner Schooner, Poms, Cheerleaders, and Toby Keith? And a Chick-Fil-A cow?
If you haven’t seen it, the Oklahoma intros are pretty electric!
Some game action as Keith Ford and Sterling Shepard score Oklahoma’s first two touchdowns.
As bad luck would have it, I caught a beautiful would-be touchdown except that Oklahoma wide receiver Sterling Shepard would be ruled out of bounds pretty much making the photo worthless. 🙁
Since the game was pretty much lopsided, I decided to climb up the steps to get a nice overall full stadium photo…
At the end of the third quarter, former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer came out of a tunnel with smoke and music blaring in the background and the stadium erupted. It’s always great to see Barry!
It was a very impressive victory for Oklahoma and up next is Tulsa on Saturday.
