Hey everyone, my name is Kristina! I am so excited to be the newest member of the KJ Images team, working as not only Kevin’s assistant, but also his co-blogger. I will be covering topics from fashion, as well as weddings, including trends, tips, creative ideas and industry interviews. I can’t wait to share all things glamorous with you!
Let’s start with the fashion basics – What to wear: The do’s and don’ts for photo sessions.
In any type of photoshoot, from bridal to boudoir, the most important rule for clothing is that all the pieces are timeless. Stick with timeless staple pieces in classic silhouettes that won’t fashion date stamp the images and will always look like they could have been taken yesterday. Your favorite trendy item may be popular right now, but chances are it will be considered a fashion crime in no time. Remember when bell bottoms were cool? A photo is forever, you’ll thank us later.
Wear colors you know look good on you. While it may be tempting to rock a new neon top, a hue you haven’t seen on from all angles and light sources may be less flattering than expected. If you are shooting as a couple or with a group, make sure to coordinate clothing in either the same colors or similar shades to avoid distracting clashes. Don’t have a signature color? Go with dark or neutral tones, which are naturally slimming.
Don’t be afraid to be yourself and show off your personality! Choose outfits you feel good wearing and can move around in, and steer clear of anything that will get uncomfortable quickly. Add a personal touch with your favorite and most frequently worn signature accessory pieces.
If nothing else, always try on all outfits including accessories before a shoot, and use common sense to decide what’s appropriate for your setting especially terrain/climate. Don’t fight nature trying to pull off impractical pieces even if they’re your favorite, clothes that don’t fit or stilettos in the snow will make you look as uncomfortable as you’ll feel. Photo session fashion is really all about combining simple pieces of clothing with subtle personal touches creating the best possible canvas for allowing a photographer to capture the essence of what makes you, you!
